TOORO'S 2 CENTURIES OF EXISTENCE: Tooro Kingdom to celebrate 200 years of existence, launches Empaka Z'egaali

Tooro Kingdom will be celebrating 200 years of existence on 4th September this year.  This was announced by the Kingdom's 1st Deputy Prime Minister, Harriet Nyakake, at Mucwa today on Friday 8th July 2022, the kingdom's headquarters, when they were launching the Tooro Kingdom Empaaka Z'egaali or Bicycle Competition.  The competition, which is exclusively sponsored by MTN Uganda, is open to men and women of all ages in the nine counties that make up the kingdom, and will start on July 29, 2022 in Kyaka County. Michael Wandera, the kingdom Sports Minister, said the willing participants will pay a registration fee of Shs 2,000 to the individuals  that will be organising the event in their respective counties.  "Those willing to participate should start the training as early as today and they should be reminded that they will have to undergo a medical checkup to ensure they are healthy enough to compete," Wandera said.  The bicycles to be used in the competition will

A look at KABAROLE DISTRICT in Western Uganda

Today we look at Kabarole District which is located in the Western region of Uganda 300 km away from Kampala (Uganda's capital city).  Kabarole district has an estimated population of 318,216 (Census 2014) and a population growth rate of 2.3 per annum.  The District lies at an altitude of 1300-3800 meters above sea level. It borders with Bunyangabu in the south, Kamwenge in South East, Kyenjojo in the East, Bundibugyo and Ntoroko in the Northwest and Kibaale in the North east. The District has good climate with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C and rainfall ranging from 1,200mm – 1,500 mm per annum.  The District has cool temperatures averaging between 22°-25°C and has a bimodal rainfall, ranging from 1200mm – 1500mm per annum. The Rotaract Club of Kabarole will this Saturday host the 20th Presidential Installation of BEST BATALINGAYA This highly anticipated event will take place on Saturday 2nd of July 2022 at the Kalya Courts Hotel. Tooro  Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy and one of the five traditional kingdoms located within the geographical borders of Uganda.  The reigning Omukama (King) of Tooro is His Majesty Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.  The people native to the kingdom are called Batooro and their language  or dialect is known as Rutooro. Tooro Kingdom was founded in 1822 when Omukama Kaboyo Olimi I, the eldest son of Omukama of Bunyoro Nyamutukura Kyebambe III of Bunyoro, seceded and established his own independent kingdom.
